Intervention & Prevention

Overview of Intervention Programming

Welcome to the intervention program at Palms ES! Intervention programming focuses on small group instruction through the implementation of targeted skills to help students build their literacy foundation. Intervention programming specializes in phonemic awareness, fluency, and comprehension development through comprehensive reading and writing exercises as adapted by the University of Florida Literacy Institute Curriculum. Small group instruction ranges from 25-35 minutes 3-5 days a week. The intervention coordinator works with each teacher to use data to drive instruction for small groups. Intervention programming is offered for students in grades K-3.

High Dose Tutoring (In School)

Palms ES will be implementing high dose tutoring for math in Fall 2023 for grades 3-5. Students that need intensive math support will be placed in a small group to receive direct instruction from a certified LAUSD vendor (Air Tutor). High dose tutoring will be conducted virtually during the school day three days a week for 30 minutes. Teachers used i-Ready diagnostic data to inform the placement of students that are offered high dose tutoring.
